You no longer have to bother using apps like Shazam to figure out what song is playing. Google Now for Android users, Siri for iPhone users and Cortana for Windows Phone users all respond to the voice command “what song is this?”. Nice and easy.
3. Swipe with two fingers for quick settings
In stock Android, after swiping down with one finger, you will have to tap on the settings icon to access “quick settings”. But you can go directly to “quick settings” by sweeping with two fingers and save the hassle.
4. Put your contact details on your lock screen
In case you lost your phone someone else found if, finding you to return the phone won’t be a problem if u use this simple but important feature. All you have to do is:
For Android users;

Many apps usually run in the background even when they are not been used. This might be ok with some apps, but with others such notes, games, music and many more, it’s just a waste of system resources and cellular data! But you can restrict background data to prevent such apps from using up your cellular data. This not only saves your data but also reduces the risk of consuming over the set limit.
With Android, you can restrict background data by following the following
- Go to Settings
- Tap Data usage
- Tap on your app of choice, then scroll to the bottom to restrict background data on cellular networks.
- Go to Settings
- Tap General
- Tap Background App Refresh, and select apps to turn off and it’s done
With just a good camera and an app, you can scan about just any document and have it just the way you want it. Thanks to apps like Adobe Scan and Scanbot for Android and iOS respectively. With apps like these, your scanned documents are properly cropped and well oriented. Documents can be saved as jpeg, bitmap or even PDF, and can be backed up to the cloud or just saved locally in the phone’s memory. This way it is fast and reliable and you can easily keep track of all your documents.
7. Turn on “Swipe” input for faster typing
Tired of typing the old-fashion way? There a faster way of typing that permits you to just drag your finger across the letters for each word. Most phones have this swipe feature built-in.
Those that don’t have this feature built-in can still use it after installing a third-party keyboard, which also comes with autocorrect and emojis. I recommend “SwiftKey”for this; even for those that have the swipe option built-in for the best experience you can get. After downloading and installing the keyboard:
Go to settings >> keyboards and Input Methods >> choose keyword >> keyboard settings >> turn on the ‘Swipe’(Continuous input method) and enjoy the new typing experience.
8. Try Launchers/Android Themes
The default start screen if not very attractive and comfortable to use. But installing Launchers permit you to customize your start screen to make it more attractive and productive. I recommend “useLine launcher” (Dodol launcher). It permits you to change the themes, install custom icon sets, app drawer settings, gestures control, double tap settings and much more. Additionally, they can make your device perform faster with proper customization.
To do this;
go to play store app >> search ‘Line launcher’ >> install >> open >> follow onscreen
instructions >> and start editing your device as you like.
Anytime if you want to change/remove, just go to the home menu or remove the app from the phone application
settings.
9. Set Mobile data limit
It’s very easy to exhaust your data and get into your airtime. Frustrating right? This problem is a very easy one to solve though; by setting mobile data limit.
To do this, go to Settings >> Data Usage. Now set your data usage limit by dragging the orange line to reflect your monthly usage quota. If u subscribe to a daily bundle, the limit you set should simply reflect the amount of data for your data plan.
10. Easily locate your phone
Sometimes it’s easy to lose track of your phone. Maybe in the car or put on top of the fridge or in the kitchen. So instead of getting panic to find your phone, use “Android Device Manager”. (Internet had to be active on the phone).
You can access ‘Android Device Manager’ via the web. It will not only find your phone but can ring the phone easily from the web.
To do this; go to your Google account on the PC >> open the link: https://www.google.com /android/find>> log in again for security purpose >> Google Find My Device page will get opened >> choose your missing phone from the drop-down >>
Google reaches out and shows you where your phone is >> Moreover, you can also ring the phone by choosing the option of “PLAY SOUND”, even if it’s in silent mode. :)
I can't believe how ignorant I've been
